the cutest thing i've seen in awhile

my parents and the kids and i were invited to watch olivia's last ballet class.  we had to wait "patiently" outside before it started.
and i have to say, it was one of the stinking cutest things i have seen in a long time.  a dozen 3- 5 year olds in leotards and ballet slippers skipping all around the room.  too cute for even a picture to capture.
take a good look, ruby.  i think this is in your future, girl.

blueberry jam

we made blueberry jam at sarah's house.  it was our first venture into jam-making.  last year we canned some delicious pickles, and we hope to do a lot of canning this year from our family garden.
we ended up doing a second batch after the first turned out so delicious!

splish splash

the weather has been really nice here lately.  jack has been enjoying the backyard a lot.  he has a new swingset, a sandbox, and a little pool.

it's amazing how much fun they can have with a few inches of water!
we also went swimming in a pool and in lake michigan last week.  and quess what?-- jack can swim all by himself!  he has a little vest-floaty-thing, and he can swim all over the place with it on.

i know, it's been awhile

so, i haven't updated in awhile. i forgot (again) the cord to hook my camera to my laptop, so uploading pictures requires me to use the computer downstairs, which isn't very kid friendly right now. i just uploaded over 150 pictures, so i have a lot to share over the next few days. the kids have really been enjoying the summer. ruby is eating a lot of different foods, and she is very active. not crawling yet, and working on some teeth, i think. jack is still mr. imagination, and looking forward to starting preschool two half-days a week in the fall at the local ymca.
i've been making a lot of stuff when i can find the time, but of course i've been forgetting to take pictures of most of it. a quick list: curtains for the rv, curtains for our kitchen, baby gifts for two friends, a quick bag (i'll show pics soon), and some housewarming/wedding gifts for my cousin which involved some sewing and some fun embroidery. i've also been working on some knitting projects: a sweater for ruby and a fun market bag for me. i'll try to be better about posting pics of the things i make. mostly just for me, i like seeing pictures of the things i've made in their completed state.

so, look for posts in the next few days of pictures from the last month!

Cheerios

So, Ruby can eat all by herself now. It started with Cheerios, and now she'll eat just about anything you put in front of her. And she looks pretty cute doin' it, don't you think?

the zoo, again

a great trip back to the zoo-- this time we visited the butterfly house, the aquarium, the rainforest, and a few animals that we missed last time.
we also shared a frozen lemonade, which was a big hit for both kids. it's getting a little trickier for me to take both kids out by myself-- ruby is in the "i want to move around but i can't so you have to hold me" phase. she's definitely my little monkey right now, climbing all over me all the time.
this was our last trip to the zoo. it definitely makes our potawatami zoo feel small, but i won't miss the hills and the crowds of the omaha zoo. that said, next time we are in town i'm sure that we will visit the zoo again.

ruby: i'm cute and i know it

jack: i'm a cool dude

the zoo

we took advantage of john not working for a few days by taking a trip to omaha's zoo. and boy, it is huge. we spent about 5 hours there and weren't able to see everything.
we rode the train, saw elephants, rhinos, monkeys, macaws, and everything in between. they have an amazing desert dome that took over an hour to walk through-- jack loves exhibits like this that you get to walk through.
we had a great time (yea for the new double stroller!), and will definitely go back to see the rest!
